Autism is a severe developmental condition which affects over few million people every year. Although autistic patients have three common areas of difficulties, the symptoms range in appearance in different patients. The severity of   autism symptoms may vary from individuals to individuals as well as in the same family.

There are three main areas of development which show a range of autism symptoms described as follows,

Autism symptoms include difficulties in relations and social interactions:

  • Children primarily show difficulties in developing nonverbal communication skills eg. Eye to eye contact, facial expressions, and body posture.
  • They find it difficult to develop friendship with children of same age.
  • No interested in playing with other children or in sharing happiness or achievements.
  • They find it difficult to develop empathy with other children.

Autism symptoms may include difficult in social interaction:

  • Late start or lack of interest to talk. About 50% of autistic people never speak.
  • Problems to initiate and continue conversations.
  • Echolation of words or phrases heard before several times.
  • Inability to follow or enjoy jokes or other perspectives of a listener.
  • Limited interest in playing or other activities is an main point of autism symptoms.

Another factor which forms a part of the triad of autism symptoms is difficulty in social imagination.

  • Difficulty in understanding other people thoughts or ideas
  • Unusual development of routines and reluctance to accept changes.
  • Repeated and stereotypical behaviors.
  • Difficult in coping with new and unusual situations.

Autism symptoms affect a large number of people every year but are not really diagnosed well due to the complexity of symptoms. (Source: Fombonne, 2005). People with Autism may have average or above average intelligence (Source: Wing, 1996). But these patients will always have problems dealing with the day-to-day world
